In 1979, photographer Jahangir Razmi stood nearby as executioners shot Kurdish prisoners in Iran. A picture he took for an Iranian newspaper was picked up by United Press International and published worldwide. To protect the photographer, his name was not printed. But the image proved so compelling that it was awarded the 1980 Pulitzer Prize. Last Monday Razmi finally received his award.

Something Blue

"The nurse skillfully ajusted the scale with several quick sweeps of her fingertips until it finally settled at 126 1/2.
"127" she said out loud.
I glared at her. Why did she think I'd wanted Marcuse to turn around. "Looked like 126 1/2 to me," I said.
She ignored me, recording 127 on my chart.

27 hour clock!
Insomnia? Or genetically predisposed?
Gene explains why people are night owls
By monitoring when and how often the mice chose to run on an exercise wheel the team spotted a change in some of the animals’ normal rhythms.
Instead of following the typical 24 hour pattern, some of the mice had body clocks that stretched to up to a 27 hour day.
Closer study of the DNA from the mice then revealed that those on a 27-hour-cycle had the after hours version of the Fbxl3 gene, one of a large family that controls the breakdown of specific proteins within body cells.
IT ALL MAKES SENSE!!! I love the number 27 because I am on a 27 hour NIGHT OWL GENETIC CODE! Yay for Science. Now perhaps, if I stopped “drinking coffee at midnight, when the moment is not right…”

Bras and Broomsticks
Nah. My mother isn't gay. I've seen her bat her long eyelashes and twirl her hair whenever she runs into Dave, the twenty-seven-year-old hunkalicious fireman who lives on the second floor."(Bras and Broomsticks, Sarah Mlynowski)

'BREAKFAST' IS SERVED, AGAIN
'BREAKFAST' IS SERVED, AGAIN
Dear Fred,
I may or may not be the first to point this out, but it's the first
time in 27 years that Supertramp songwriters Rick Davies and Roger
Hodgson have cruised into the top 10 [on the Hot 100]. Gym Class
Heroes' "Cupid's Chokehold" (which samples the title track from
Supertramp's No. 1 album "Breakfast in America") moves up to No. 7.
Thanks for the great news and observations today!
Jason Voigt
Dear Jason,
You are the first to write about the Gym Class Heroes' sampling of
Supertramp. For those who haven't recognized the "take a look at my
girlfriend" refrain in "Cupid's Chokehold," it does come from the song
"Breakfast in America," as Jason notes.
Of the 10 Supertramp singles to chart on the Hot 100, only two found
their way to the top 10. "The Logical Song" peaked at No. 6 and "Take
the Long Way Home" landed at No. 10, both in 1979. So it has been 27
years, as you say, since Rick Davies and Roger Hodgson have had a
songwriting credit in the top 10 of the Hot 100.

Children of Men
In 2027, as humankind faces the likelihood of its own extinction, a disillusioned government agent agrees to help transport and protect a miraculously pregnant woman to a sanctuary at sea where her child's birth may help scientists to save the future of mankind. Written by IMDb Editors
FYI, the book was set in 2021. Why the change? Well, the screenwriters must have been in the know, of course!

We found 27 products for "Penguin Skate"
![]() | Penguin SkateA charming crew of penguin kids takes to the ice in this simple but very cute seasonal pattern. Each penguin has a specially colored hat, and each dinner plate, salad plate and mug features a different vignette. The penguin in the yellow hat needs to be a little more careful! And take a look at how the poor little guy in the red hat "falls through the ice" on the vegetable bowl. |

Scrantonicity 27 Lover

Last week we posed the question that was on everybody's mind: Who rocks your world harder- the newly reunited Police or the world's most popular Police cover band, Scrantonicity? Well, the results are in and it's not even close. Scrantonicity DESTROYED Sting & company by a score of 357 - 4. It was a blood bath. And judging by most of the comments, it looks like The Police never stood a chance. Here are some of our favorites:
- Talent wise-Scrantonicity. Awesomeness wise-Scrantoicity. -david lynch
- I vote for Scrantonicity-hands down! They played my wedding and ROCKED IT! Who’s Sting? -Tunalicious27
- Scrantonicity all the way, dude. Had Kevin not told us, I wouldn’t have thought it was only their third wedding. Fourth or fifth, at LEAST. -Claire
- UMM… Scratonicity is the #1 up and coming band right now. the police are like a little kid at his own birthday party. no one wants to say anything bad because that would be rude, but everyone is just their because there isn’t much else to do… or they are friends with the parents in the police. or there is a girl at the party that they have been wanting to meet. OH YEAH!!!!! -J
- I’ve never even heard of The Police. But Scrantonicity is huge here in the Electric City. -BigDCfromSCRANTON
