PLEASE SIGN THE PETITION TO HELP SAVE BABIES.

Dear Friend,

We are petitioning Google™ to create a doodle in honor of Prematurity Awareness Day, November 14th. Google is famous for their doodles*, and each one is seen by millions of people around the world, highlighting many interesting holidays and causes. Premature Birth is a global crisis, so what better way to draw attention to this terrible problem than by having a doodle created for Prematurity Awareness Day?

As of this morning, we tallied over 27,000 signatures. That's how many people think our fight against premature birth is worthy of worldwide recognition! There's strength in numbers, so we need your help! Please be a part of this grassroots effort to save babies from premature birth!

Arrested Development!

Oh yeah! My favorite TV show, in the KNOW! I didn't notice it at the time, but now that I made it through Season 3 DVD's I found a 27!!!

Michael goes into the Bluth office and finds one of his co-workers got hurt while partying (I think it was from their stocks jumping to "Risky" from a "Don't Buy" level...)

He walks over to the wipe off board that says..

"27 days since last employee injury"

And then erases the 27 and puts 1.

Straight Outta Lynwood

As all good 27 devotees know, 27 is Weird Al's favorite number. He usually works it in to his album covers, and his new one is no exception:

(the 27 is in the license plate number)

27 bleeps

The lovely and talented Carla Ulbrich
is selling a single of her song If I Had the Copyright (the F word Song). Here's the text description:

From the documentary (F**k) about the F word (this is the first song you hear in the movie). It's about how wealthy the singer would be if she had the copyright on that ever-popular word. The F word is used 27 times...

Captain Jean-Luc Picard was a graduate of the Starfleet Academy class of '27.

Picard failed his first entrance exam into Starfleet Academy, but was subsequently admitted. He graduated from Starfleet Academy in 2327,

I picked up on this tidbit of trivia while watching the episode Tapestry.

27 Days. A cool chic in the know! ;)

Her book is gonna do just fine!

Countdown - 27 Days!

Well, it’s not exactly a big month or anything. I’m only changing jobs, having a birthday, and publishing my first novel. Big whoop. Not that I care or anything, but the date for the book launch party at Elliott Bay Books is June 5. Things will get rolling at 7 p.m. with drinks and appetizers then I’ll get up and babble drunkenly at about 7:45. Hey, it worked for Charles Bukowski. BE THERE! IT’S ONLY THE MOST IMPORTANT DAY OF MY LIFE! I mean, it’s just another day.

Power of 27.

Gotta love that Jen 14,221!

i did not get to see depeche mode in concert...boo hoo

Oh my, three days with out a post! Where was I? Not with Jenn in Vegas at the Hard Rock, that's for sure. I've been busy. Doing:

Yardwork, laundry, cooking, cleaning, reading and re-reading the Buffalo Spree, chasing after the boy, finally cracking open The Da Vinci code (I am one of 27 people in the US who have not read it, right?), work, etc.

Also - last night - a first. I skipped the Apprentice and went to bed at 9:15pm. Don't worry, I have TiVo. I'll watch it tonight.

Ah, on the new episode of The Simpsons tonight...

Lisa dresses up as a boy to prove the best math student is really a...girl. In one of her dream sequences all these math symbols and signs are floating around along with one number 27. Which I immediately pointed out to Mark, and then of course the 27 spoke to her...it said .

"27."

Submitted for our pleasure

Thanks to The Smarmy Carny, who writes:

27 is my favorite number, so I always keep an eye out for it. I noticed one last night:

In the movie Everything Is Illuminated, the main character (Elijah Wood) flies back to the United States and walks out of Gate 27 at the airport.

It should be noted that binary for 27 is palindromic and pretty: 11011

Keep 'em coming!

#27

In Wikipedia! :)

27 (twenty-seven) is the natural number following 26 and preceding 28. Twenty-seven is the smallest positive integer requiring four syllables to name in English, though it can be unambiguously defined in just two: "three cubed". It is the first composite number not divisible by any of its digits. It is the radix (base) of the septemvigesimal positional numeral system.

Twenty-seven is a perfect cube, being 33 = 3 × 3 × 3. 27 is 3↑↑2 (using Knuth's up-arrow notation). It is also a decagonal number. It is the magic result of a prime reciprocal magic square of the multiples of 1/7. It is a Smith number and a Harshad number. There are exactly 27 straight lines on a cubic surface. It is the twenty-eighth (and twenty-ninth) digit in Ï€. (3.141592653589793238462643383279).

A 10,000-day-old person is 27 years old.

Twenty-seven is also:

Chapter 27

Chapter 27 (2007) - A film about Mark David Chapman in the days leading up to the infamous murder of Beatle John Lennon. "Chapter 27," is a reference to the 26 chapters in the J.D. Salinger coming-of-age novel "The Catcher in the Rye," which Chapman cited as his inspiration for the murder. Chapman has said he identified with the book's hero, who hated phonies, and gunned Lennon down because he thought him a hypocrite.

"Poem #27 or "Its design is like a forest & a forest is no design at all"

Originally blogged here. :)

Disclosure: I am not really a fan of poetry. I dabble in it here and there, and sometimes find a poet I really like. Most times, I just don't get it. Or care too. Spencer's collection, for the most part, is quite over my head. I don't get the style, but again, I am not a poetry person. I do know that generally speaking, while reading this collection... my heart felt heavy and I wanted to untangle his sadness, knowing it would be impossible to do so. If that makes any sense at all...I DID however realize that Mr. Short is in the *know* about the number 27.

Evidence being "Poem #27 or "Its design is like a forest & a forest is no design at all"

Jeanette Winterson :)

In the know about the power of 27. I adore this author.

I read her collection of short stories this weekend...called "The World And Other Places"

And look what I found.

"Pin her down? She's not a butterfly, I'm not a wrestler. She's a target. I'm not a gun. Tell you what she is? She's not Lot no. 27 and I'm not one to brag."

And another one...
"Anyone who looked up could see it: TWENTY-SEVEN SHOPPING DAYS TO CHRISTMAS, in red letters, followed by a storm of dancing Santas, then a whirlwind of angels, trumpets rampant."

From...

Psychology Today. Nov/Dec 2005

"27 percent of cards contain just the sender's signatire without a personal message."

27s galore

Today was a big day for The Chronicles of 27. :)

Thanks to Eden, for bringing this to my attention:

Oh please. All hell's supposed to break loose when you're 27. When I called Tom Robbins last week to tell him the fascinating fact that sperm leaves the human male at just over 27 miles an hour, Tom replied, “That's good, because women go through a second adolescence at 27.” Kurt Cobain, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Jean-Michel Basquiat, and Jim Morrison all died at 27. (The number 27 is also powerfully romantic; see the last question.)

And there's more!

In fact, I'm going to deliver to you 27 incredibly handsome possibilities. Yes! You'll be driving up to Vermont in no time at all. Just go to www.Catch27.com—it's my new Web site where you get 27 hot catches and then (because I know you're picky) you trade the ones you don't want…just like baseball cards!

RAFAEL PALMEIRO NAMED NEW WHITE HOUSE SPOKESMAN

Rafael Palmeiro, the first baseman for the Baltimore Orioles who was suspended by Major League Baseball after testing positive for steroids, stunned the worlds of baseball and politics alike today by retiring from his sport to become the new White House press spokesman. Most baseball insiders had expected Mr. Palmeiro to return to his position at first base upon finishing his suspension, making his decision to replace Scott McClellan as White House spokesman all the more surprising. But the plain-spoken Palmeiro impressed White House staffers in his first press briefing today, jutting his index finger in the faces of reporters and offering no fewer than twenty-seven spirited denials in answer to their questions.
