Girls are not Chicks Coloring Book

Girls are not Chicks Coloring Book.

DING DING DING! Are you kidding?
27 pages of feminist, educational fun! A subversive and playful for for children, and adults, to examine how pervasive gender stereotypes are in every aspect of life. This book helps to deconstruct the homogeneity of gender expression in children's media by showing diverse pictures that reinforce positive gender roles for girls. Girls ate not chicks. Girls are thinkers, creators, fighters, healers and superheroes.
27 pages. Another awesome person in the know.
And I guess this one is sort of *feminist* cute.

Why only 27? Not 20? Not 25?

"27 Obvious Signs She Wants You."

BECAUSE MEN'S HEALTH IS IN THE KNOW and realizes the power of 27, that's why! :)

27 Boxes? Really? :)

Thomas Herrera-Mishler

Thomas Herrera-Mishler A new week to begin, with laundry (almost) done, the grass isn't mowed, the house is a wreck, but the garage is almost empty and a car is back inside. Goodwill hauled away 27 boxes of leftovers...

Handicapped space 27/Dining 27

Novac writes:

This sign appeared outside my apartment building this week. These signs go up whenever we have someone move in who needs it, but they are never numbered. It's a mystery why this one was numbered, but no surprise that it had this particular number on it.

When on an anniversary trip last year, we dined at a popular chain restaurant. Since there was a long wait, they gave us this to inform us when our turn was up.

27 sighting roundup

Hi all...it's been a while since we checked our email. Here's a roundup of sightings since the last time we posted:

The 27 Club movie
from reader Lady Spinning

A book, The 27s: The Greatest Myth of Rock 'n Roll, from reader Josh Hunter

Reader Gordon Griffin sent these, which I did know about, but neglected to post--
  • The movie Children of Men takes place in the year 2027.
  • The opening line of Slither is "A whipporwill files about 27 miles per hour."
  • In the movie Hot Fuzz (2007), at 30:50 into the movie, a cop says "27." as he's measuring the speed of cars.
  • He also mentioned the movie 27 Dresses, which I can't believe neither of us posted about!
Our friend Novac of The Smarmy Carny, mentions that he finally got around to watching the movie The Number 23. While Jim Carrey's character tries to convince his wife about the
number 23, she retorts with, "It could work with 27 or 150! You could
do the same thing!" Also in the movie, a hotel clerk first offers the main character room number 27 before he insists on room 23.

Whew! I apologize if any of these are repeats...

Eddie Murphy/SNL

Reader Airen sent in these sightings:

I have SNL's "Best of Eddie Murphy" on DVD. There are two sketches in which I heard the number 27.

The first was a Gumby sketch. In this one, Gumby is at a deli and orders a Morey Amsterdam sandwich. But the waiter tells him he still owes $17.27 for the last time he ordered a sandwich. Gumby asks one of his friends to pay the waiter. After his friend pays the money, Gumby again orders the sandwich, but the waiter has no idea what he's talking about. The waiter says that he's worked at the deli for 27 years and has never received an order for a Morey Amsterdam sandwich.

The second was part of a continuing series of "special report" sketches about Buckwheat from "The Little Rascals" being shot. The reporter says that the killer is 27 years old.

Thanks, Airen!

In Steve Martin's book Pure Drivel, a selection titled "Mars Probe Finds Kittens" (transcribed here) begins as follows:

The newly arrived probe to Mars has returned irrefutable evidence that the red planet is populated with approximately 27 million 3-month-old kittens.

On page 9:
Nah. My mother isn't gay. I've seen her bat her long eyelashes and twirl her hair whenever she runs into Dave, the twenty-seven-year-old hunkalicious fireman who lives on the second floor."

'BREAKFAST' IS SERVED, AGAIN

(spotted by LT)From Billboard.com's "Chart Beat Chat" :

'BREAKFAST' IS SERVED, AGAIN

Dear Fred,

I may or may not be the first to point this out, but it's the first
time in 27 years that Supertramp songwriters Rick Davies and Roger
Hodgson have cruised into the top 10 [on the Hot 100]. Gym Class
Heroes' "Cupid's Chokehold" (which samples the title track from
Supertramp's No. 1 album "Breakfast in America") moves up to No. 7.
Thanks for the great news and observations today!

Jason Voigt

Dear Jason,

You are the first to write about the Gym Class Heroes' sampling of
Supertramp. For those who haven't recognized the "take a look at my
girlfriend" refrain in "Cupid's Chokehold," it does come from the song
"Breakfast in America," as Jason notes.

Of the 10 Supertramp singles to chart on the Hot 100, only two found
their way to the top 10. "The Logical Song" peaked at No. 6 and "Take
the Long Way Home" landed at No. 10, both in 1979. So it has been 27
years, as you say, since Rick Davies and Roger Hodgson have had a
songwriting credit in the top 10 of the Hot 100.

Children of Men

In 2027, as humankind faces the likelihood of its own extinction, a disillusioned government agent agrees to help transport and protect a miraculously pregnant woman to a sanctuary at sea where her child's birth may help scientists to save the future of mankind. Written by IMDb Editors

FYI, the book was set in 2021. Why the change? Well, the screenwriters must have been in the know, of course!
