This sign appeared outside my apartment building this week. These signs go up whenever we have someone move in who needs it, but they are never numbered. It's a mystery why this one was numbered, but no surprise that it had this particular number on it.

When on an anniversary trip last year, we dined at a popular chain restaurant. Since there was a long wait, they gave us this to inform us when our turn was up.

The movie Children of Men takes place in the year 2027.
The opening line of Slither is "A whipporwill files about 27 miles per hour."
In the movie Hot Fuzz (2007), at 30:50 into the movie, a cop says "27." as he's measuring the speed of cars.
He also mentioned the movie 27 Dresses, which I can't believe neither of us posted about!

Our friend Novac of The Smarmy Carny, mentions that he finally got around to watching the movie The Number 23. While Jim Carrey's character tries to convince his wife about the
number 23, she retorts with, "It could work with 27 or 150! You could
do the same thing!" Also in the movie, a hotel clerk first offers the main character room number 27 before he insists on room 23.

I have SNL's "Best of Eddie Murphy" on DVD. There are two sketches in which I heard the number 27.

The first was a Gumby sketch. In this one, Gumby is at a deli and orders a Morey Amsterdam sandwich. But the waiter tells him he still owes $17.27 for the last time he ordered a sandwich. Gumby asks one of his friends to pay the waiter. After his friend pays the money, Gumby again orders the sandwich, but the waiter has no idea what he's talking about. The waiter says that he's worked at the deli for 27 years and has never received an order for a Morey Amsterdam sandwich.

The second was part of a continuing series of "special report" sketches about Buckwheat from "The Little Rascals" being shot. The reporter says that the killer is 27 years old.

By monitoring when and how often the mice chose to run on an exercise wheel the team spotted a change in some of the animals’ normal rhythms.

Instead of following the typical 24 hour pattern, some of the mice had body clocks that stretched to up to a 27 hour day.

Closer study of the DNA from the mice then revealed that those on a 27-hour-cycle had the after hours version of the Fbxl3 gene, one of a large family that controls the breakdown of specific proteins within body cells.

Supertramp. For those who haven't recognized the "take a look at my
girlfriend" refrain in "Cupid's Chokehold," it does come from the song
"Breakfast in America," as Jason notes.

Of the 10 Supertramp singles to chart on the Hot 100, only two found
their way to the top 10. "The Logical Song" peaked at No. 6 and "Take
the Long Way Home" landed at No. 10, both in 1979. So it has been 27
years, as you say, since Rick Davies and Roger Hodgson have had a
songwriting credit in the top 10 of the Hot 100.

How I Met Your Mother's episode "Atlantic City" includes a 27 reference. Marshall and Lily head to Atlantic City to elope. They go to a casino wedding chapel. The receptionist organizes the weddings and calls out Keno numbers. The second number she calls is 27.

Forget Friday the 13th - today is the day for real bad luck

THIS could be your unlucky day. Monday the 27th has, it seems, overtaken Friday the 13th as the date on which the more suspicious among us should avoid the likes of job interviews, weddings and driving tests.

The date has been identified as the most ill-starred on the calendar, with more mishaps recorded than at any other.

The trend emerged from a study of more than one million insurance claims, showing more people are likely to have accidents on Monday the 27th than on any other day. Domestic disasters, including burst water pipes and DIY problems, feature heavily on the lists.

Road accidents were also common on that date. The mishaps of unlucky British drivers included crashes in car parks, branches falling on cars and accidents caused by people trying to avoid animals.

Kevin Sinclair, the managing director of AA Insurance, which carried out the study, said: "Friday the 13th is associated with bad luck, but our records show you're statistically more likely to have an accident or break something on Monday the 27th."

Oh yeah! My favorite TV show, in the KNOW! I didn't notice it at the time, but now that I made it through Season 3 DVD's I found a 27!!!

Countdown - 27 Days!

Well, it’s not exactly a big month or anything. I’m only changing jobs, having a birthday, and publishing my first novel. Big whoop. Not that I care or anything, but the date for the book launch party at Elliott Bay Books is June 5. Things will get rolling at 7 p.m. with drinks and appetizers then I’ll get up and babble drunkenly at about 7:45. Hey, it worked for Charles Bukowski. BE THERE! ~~IT’S ONLY THE MOST IMPORTANT DAY OF MY LIFE!~~ I mean, it’s just another day.

Oh my, three days with out a post! Where was I? Not with Jenn in Vegas at the Hard Rock, that's for sure. I've been busy. Doing:

Yardwork, laundry, cooking, cleaning, reading and re-reading the Buffalo Spree, chasing after the boy, finally cracking open The Da Vinci code (I am one of 27 people in the US who have not read it, right?), work, etc.

Also - last night - a first. I skipped the Apprentice and went to bed at 9:15pm. Don't worry, I have TiVo. I'll watch it tonight.

In the movie Everything Is Illuminated, the main character (Elijah Wood) flies back to the United States and walks out of Gate 27 at the airport.

It should be noted that binary for 27 is palindromic and pretty: 11011
